5. Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscope for Nanoscale Imaging and Chemical Analysis - Project Overview

Nanotechnology involves building devices structures at the Nanometre scale (one billionth of a metre) and is an emerging market which is predicted to revolutionise our everyday lives with many applications in healthcare, electronics, smart materials and clean energy generation.

Through A4B funding the Multidisciplinary Nanotechnology Centre (MNC) at Swansea University have been able to buy a scanning microscope for Nanoscale imaging and chemical analysis. This bespoke microscope is the only one of its kind in Wales and one of the most technically advanced in the UK that will be widely available to industry.

It will allow industries from the steel, photovoltaic's, pharmaceutical, cosmetic, Opto and microelectronics, sensors and communication industries to obtain vital information enabling them to develop new research and development solutions.
