9. Cutting & Fabrication Technology Centre (CFTC) KTC and Optimisation of Composite Cutting Parameters Project
This project is specifically aimed at investigating the efficiency of 5 Axis CNC technology and water jet-technology in the finishing process of composite components intended for the automotive and aerospace markets. Their project will produce an optimised set of operational values for these technologies across a range of composite materials, that minimises recognised difficulties such as "chatter" of the component edge during the finishing process and generate a performance edge in terms of quality and consistency to their collaborating companies.
They are providing Wales with improvements to the manufacturing knowledge base so that Welsh companies manufacturing and using composites will have a competitive edge, particularly for products intended for the automotive and aerospace sectors.
